      <image:title>Blog - Organizing on a Budget - Kitchen</image:title>
<image:caption>One of the most popular kitchen organizing tips on The Home Edit, is decanting your food. That means putting the food into a clear container and throwing away the packaging. If you are being budget conscious, I don’t recommend doing this for every food item you purchase. Here is my tip; if it comes in a box, leave it in the box. If it comes in a bag, decant it. The reason being, that unstructured containers (bags) tend to look messy and take up more space than they need to, because the contents settle at the bottom. A box will keep its shape. Here are some food items that I decant; rice, flour, sugar, dried fruits, nuts, oats. For the things that you do decide to decant, instead of buying plastic food storage containers that cost $15 to $20 each, use mason jars. You can buy a box of mason jars for just over $1 per jar. Or better yet, use an old pasta sauce jar! All you need to do is remove the label, wash it out, and voilà! You have a perfectly good jar for organizing.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - Organizing on a Budget - Organize Like a Store</image:title>
<image:caption>This tip applies to every space in your home. And it won’t cost you a penny! First, make sure to keep similar items together. Whether or not the items are stored in a cabinet or open shelf, line them up in a straight line and keep everything at the front of the shelf. For your linens, practice folding everything, that way it looks really pretty on the shelf! There are plenty of instructional videos on how to fold different items (even your fitted sheets). It just takes some practice!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - What Not to Buy: Kids Edition</image:title>
<image:caption>Many parents gravitate toward front-facing bookshelves so kids can see the book covers and (hopefully) feel more inspired to read. Sounds like a great idea, right? One of the more affordable versions of these shelves is made of fabric slings. But here's the problem: the books just flop forward into a saggy mess. Instead of inviting your child to pick up a book, it ends up looking cluttered—and makes it hard to actually see the covers.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - What Not to Buy: Kids Edition</image:title>
<image:caption>You’ve probably seen this one: a low rack with plastic bins tilted forward, usually in bright, playful colors. It seems like a great idea at first—until it lives in your home. Here's why I don’t recommend it: The tilt causes items to spill out constantly. It looks messy since you can see everything inside. And most importantly, it’s not user-friendly for little hands. Cleaning up becomes a battle instead of a routine. Kids thrive with organization systems that are simple and intuitive. This one just doesn’t cut it.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - What Not to Buy: Kids Edition</image:title>
<image:caption>Okay, I lied—I am going to recommend one thing. A basic cube organizer (like the ones you’ll find at Target or Walmart) is a total game-changer. It’s: Sturdy and durable Budget-friendly Easy to customize with bins, baskets, or left open for books and toys Best of all, it grows with your child—from baby years to teen life and beyond. Use it in the playroom, bedroom, or even a hallway.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - My Favorite Organizing Products - These bamboo drawer dividers are perfect for shallow kitchen and bathroom drawers. They provide just a little bit of separation, so you don’t have to sift through an entire drawer of items to find what you need. These particular drawer dividers come in a “small” and “large” size, so make sure to measure the depth of your drawers before purchasing. If your drawer is on the cusp of both sizes (long enough for the large, but also short enough for the small) buy the large size. They stay in place because of tension in the spring, so the more tension, the more secure it will be.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - My Favorite Organizing Products - Water bottles seem to be an item of collection nowadays. Families I work with usually have a whole shelf of just water bottles. The ones sitting at the back of that shelf tend to be forgotten. With these bottle organizers, every water bottle becomes visible and accessible. No more pulling out five other water bottles just to find the one you want. And depending on the depth of your cabinet, you might even be able to fit the bottles with straw lids in these organizers. Something you will want to keep in mind is the size of your water bottles. Bottles such as the 30 oz Yeti tumblers will not fit in this organizer, the mouth is too wide. Again, always measure before you buy.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - My Favorite Organizing Products - If you like any sort of canned drink, this can dispenser is an excellent addition to the fridge. Any 12 oz can will fit, whether you like beer, soda, seltzer water… Each dispenser can hold nine cans. They are angled downward just enough to push the cans forward when you take one out. And if you need more than one they are stackable! This will save you a lot of shelf space in your refrigerator. There are longer dispensers that fit 12 cans, so if your fridge shelves are deep enough and you like to buy 12 packs, these might be the right option for you! But make sure you measure before you buy!</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - My Favorite Organizing Products - I love these organizing bins for a variety of different spaces! They come in many sizes, they are stackable, they have movable dividers, and my favorite part, they have little wheels on the back! You can simply lift the front and pull the whole bin forward! I most commonly use these in cabinets that are really deep. Such as kitchen cabinets, under sink cabinets, and linen closets.</image:title>

      <image:title>Blog - Organizing with Children</image:title>
<image:caption>We all know that our kids’ toys should be put away in containers, but the next step in that system is adding a label. It might seem silly to give kids labels for their things, but it helps them know where to put things so that you don’t need to supervise every time they are cleaning up. If you have kids who can read obviously standard written labels will do the trick, but you have pre-readers or kids who are just learning how to read here are some tricks. Give your kids stickers that match the category to put on the bin. If they have a lego bin, give them lego stickers to put all over it. If they have a shoe bin, give them shoe stickers...you get the point. Kids love stickers, and including them in creating organizational systems will make them more inclined to follow those systems. Another fun idea is to have a polaroid camera, snap a picture of the items that belong in the bin and tape it to the front! I always recommend writing a label to go along with the picture or sticker, even if your kids can’t read yet, because it will help them learn to read in the process!</image:caption>
